Love Song of Kangding/康定情歌

Girls from the City of Daban/达坂城的姑娘

Introduction to the Songs:. 

The group will sing two traditional Chinese songs.  The first one is a Sichuan ethnic song named "Love Song of Kangding".  This popular song is composed of three music paragraphs, which all adopt a repeated romantic melody of "yue liang wan wan," meaning "meandering moon." The mixture of "affection and attraction" has made generations after generations in China to regard this song of western ethnic origin as a true national love song.

The second song, "Girls from the City of Daban," once again is a western ethnic song from the mountain region of Xinjiang.  Originally a city with no publicity, Daban became a tourist destination only because the greatest ethnic song-writer of modern China, Mr. Wang Luobin, wrote this enormously popular song. Naturally, the Daban's beautiful girls have become the main attraction of the city since Wang Luobin.

The leading solo singer is Professor Li Hu from the Art Department of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

《康定情歌》

康定位于我国四川省西部高原。《康定情歌》是一首流传于我国西南地区的传统民歌，又名《跑马溜溜的山上》。这首民歌抒发了青年男女热烈相爱，追求自由幸福生活的情感。旋律流畅、优美、深挚。每乐段由三个乐句组成。前两句主要在中高音区，情绪高昂、热烈；第三乐句是第二乐句的变化重复，从低音区起腔，感情深挚、委婉。歌词每段两句，，中间加用了"溜溜的"，"月亮弯弯"等衬词，活跃了节奏、舒展了歌腔，又使歌曲更加风趣生动。

《达坂城的姑娘》

达坂城，坐落在新疆天山中部，位于乌鲁木齐和吐鲁番之间。它是一个极其普通的村镇，却因王洛宾的一曲《达坂城的姑娘》而驰名中外。这是全国第一首汉语译配的维吾尔族民歌。它那特殊的韵律，清新、悦耳的曲调和生动幽默的歌词，深深打动人们的心。所有到达坂城去的人，都不禁多看几眼达坂城的姑娘，多瞧瞧赶马车的维吾尔族小伙子。
