Welcome to the North East Wisconsin Chinese Association web site. This
web site is dedicated to the Chinese people and the people who care about
promoting culture diversity and understanding. It serves as a
connecting point for all the people who are either members of the Association or
have a genuine interest in the Chinese people, heritage and culture.
Our Mission
The mission of North East Wisconsin Chinese Association is to serve and
support the local Chinese population and the people who are friends of the
Chinese people in the north east of Wisconsin. It also strives to promote
cultural exchange, build mutual trust and respect in the local community.
Profile
The North East Wisconsin Chinese Association is a non-profit organization
that was founded by the Chinese immigrants to the United States. It
started in the 1980s by a few families of Chinese
immigrants from Taiwan and now has grown to have a membership of 100 families
strong (exact number to be determined) from many different country origins. We have such diversity
in the membership as
multi-generation Chinese-Americans, first generation Chinese immigrants, foreign
exchange students and families with adopted Chinese children. It is
essentially an extended family of diverse background. The current
generation of Chinese-American families no longer fits the stereotypical image,
for example, of the early 1900s. Now the Association has members who are
doctors, professors, engineers, restaurant owners, private entrepreneurs as well
as average office workers.
Currently the association has two elected officers,
the president and executive vice-president. The executive vice-president
also acts as the Treasurer and Secretary.
Election is held annually around the Chinese New Year. The Association
sponsored activities are supported primarily by the membership fee and private
donations. Donation is always greatly appreciated since the Association
has no other income and the budget is extremely limited.
